最上級を原級・比較級で表すには
英語では、最上級を表す際に、通常は 「最上級形」（ the best, the tallestなど）を使いますが、原級 や 比較級 を使って 最上級の意味 を表すこともできます。
①原級を使った場合
（構文）
No (other) + 単数名詞 + is as + 形容詞の原級 + as ～
または
Nothing is as + 形容詞の原級 + as ～
（意味）
「～が一番…だ」「～ほど…なものはない」
（例文）
- No other city is as big as Tokyo.
（東京ほど大きな都市は他にない）＝東京が一番大きい。 - Nothing is as important as health.
（健康ほど大切なものはない）＝健康が最も大切だ。
②比較級を使った場合
（構文）
比較級 + than any other + 単数名詞
または
比較級 + than all the other + 複数名詞
（意味）
「他のどれよりも～だ」＝最上級と同じ意味
（例文）
- Mt. Everest is higher than any other mountain.
（エベレスト山は他のどの山よりも高い）＝世界で一番高い山。 - She is taller than all the other students.
（彼女は他のすべての生徒より背が高い）＝彼女が一番背が高い。
（使い方）
１，(最上級) Lisa is the smartest girl.
（リサが一番賢い女の子です。）
- (原級) No other girl is as smart as Lisa.
（リサほど賢い女の子はいません。） - (比較級) Lisa is smarter than any other girl.
（リサは他のどの女の子よりも賢いです。）
２，(最上級) Taro is the fastest runner.
（太郎が一番速いランナーです。）
- (原級) No other runner is as fast as Taro.
（太郎ほど速いランナーはいません。） - (比較級) Taro runs faster than any other runner.
（太郎は他のどのランナーよりも速く走ります。）
