先行詞の省略について
関係副詞の中には、先行詞を省略しても意味が通じるものがあります。つまり、もともとあった名詞（day, place, reason, wayなど）を省いて、関係副詞だけを残す形です。
（具体的な例）
①he day when → when だけに省略可能
- I remember the day when we met.
（私たちが出会った日を覚えています。） - → I remember when we met.（←先行詞 「the day」 を省略）
② the place where → where だけに省略可能
- This is the place where I was born.
（ここが私が生まれた場所です。） - →This is where I was born.（←「the place」 を省略）
③ the reason why → why だけに省略可能
- I know the reason why she left.
（彼女が去った理由を知っています。） - → I know why she left.（←「the reason」 を省略）
④ the way how → 両方一緒に使わない（注意）
これは少し特殊です：
- ✖ I know the way how he solved the problem.（文法的にNG）
- 〇I know how he solved the problem.
（ 彼が問題を解いた方法を知っています。）
（使い方）
1. I remember when we first met.
（私たちが初めて会ったときを覚えています。）
- 省略された語：the day
2. This is where I grew up.
（ ここが私が育った場所です。）
- 省略された語：the place
3. I understand why he was angry.
（ なぜ彼が怒ったのか理由がわかります。）
- 省略された語：the reason
4. She showed me how she made the cake.
（ 彼女はそのケーキをどうやって作ったのかを見せてくれました。）
- 省略された語：the way
