関係副詞について
関係副詞は、2つの文をつなぐときに使う「接続詞のような役割」を持つ副詞で、つなぐ文の中で副詞の働き（時・場所・理由など）をします。
（例文と使い方）
① when（～するとき）
（例文）
I remember the day when we met.
（私たちが出会った日のことを覚えている。）
（「when」は「we met」のとき＝時を表す副詞）
（使い方）
- That was the moment when I realized the truth.
→ それが私が真実に気づいた瞬間でした。 - I’ll never forget the day when I graduated.
→ 私が卒業した日のことは決して忘れません。卒業した日のことは忘れられません。
② where（～するところで）
（例文）
This is the park where we played.
（ここは私たちが遊んだ公園です。）
（「where」は「we played」の場所）
（使い方）
- That’s the café where we met last week.
（あれが先週私たちが会ったカフェです。） - Do you know a shop where I can buy souvenirs?
（お土産が買える店を知っていますか？）
③ why（～する理由で）
（例文）
I don’t know the reason why she is angry.
（彼女が怒っている理由がわからない。）
（「why」は「she is angry」の理由）
※「the reason」は省略されることもあります → “That’s why I’m late.”（＝それが私が遅れた理由です）
（使い方）
- That’s the reason why I study hard.
（ それが私が一生懸命勉強する理由です。） - Can you tell me the reason why you’re upset?
（ 君が怒っている理由を教えてくれる？）
④ how（～する方法で）
（例文）
I don’t know how he fixed the car.I don’t know how he fixed that car.
（彼がどうやってその車を直したのか、私は知らない。）
※ 「the way how」は通常NG（✖）です
（使い方）
- She showed me how to make sushi.
（彼女は私に寿司の作り方を教えてくれました。） - Do you understand how this machine works?
（この機械がどう動くか分かりますか？） - I can’t explain how it happened.
（それがどのようにして起きたのか説明できません。）
